It's just quicker and much easier to type with one finger instead of having to tap each letter. If you're used to a QWERTY keyboard then it shouldn't be too difficult to have your thumbs covering the letter.
Let me clarify my statement about my finger covering the keys:
When I use just my thumbs (both hands), they stay below and out of the way until I actually peck at a key, which, of course, they cover when they press it.
When I tried Swype, I wasn't exactly sure which finger to use -
When I used my thumb, it was awkward and slow, because my mind is geared to two-hand typing.
When I used my index finger, my HAND covered parts of the keyboard, and again the one-fingered nature of Swype goes against my two-fingered brain for typing.
My conclusion is that for those of us who touch-type, Swype may actually be slower than two-thumbed typing.
I actually would use the voice-recognizer before I would use Swype...
Of course, this is my own preference. I understand there are still quite a few people out there who swear Swype is faster...Maybe they're not touch-typists.
