thanks 4 the quick reply.........an 8 yr verizon veteran (sales rep) said it already had this capability when I asked him this very q! sounds like 20 days to count down before I probably will have to turn in both our Aria phones........hopefully, my wife and I didn't waste time learning all new features for NOT?

i think when the rep says it has "capability" that is their way of selling you into the phone on a technicality if you will...it has the capability because its an Android, it lacks the execution to do so because of the firmware version...2.0 is needed and its coming...and 20 days it not really the count...i have heard 1/11 to somewhere in Q1...

ty 4 the heads up.......may I ask before trying today something that I thought that I read on this forum that the Aria can't do and that is if I can use my ANT blue tooth ear bud to place a call via voice??? As well as the other day I opened a test email to myself hoping to be able to easily copy/extract/paste contact info from it to easily place into my contacts w/o success! .........I previously owned a Samsung i760 w/ windows mobile 6 having this convenient capability along w/ other things....but I was willing to switch personal & business contacts, calendar, tasks etc. to Google for hopefully easier & more convenient applications. Was I wrong?

I think that a phone running a windows based application will give you more functionality for copy/paste features.  Let me understand what you want to do though so maybe we can uncover the Android steps to accomplish:

someone sends you an email and in the body of that email is contact information for a person?  email, phone etc..?  take that contact information and create a new stand alone contact in your people directory?  from the body of the email?

as for the ANT Bluetooth, everything I have read online indicates the device was built to operate with google voice

Actually there is still no way to copy & paste coveniently that I have found nor does Aria activate any hands free ear piece via voice. Meaning you can not hear nor talk into ear piece to have it do anything! One has to use the  phone manually but could redial last call from the ear piece.  Undecided

A verizon tech couldn't tell me much but I found a confirmation of what our sr. administrator said a while back on this forum here:

http://www.intomobile.com/2009/12/04/verizon-htc-droid-incredible-getting-google-maps-navigation-with-android-2-0-update.html

WHICH BASICALLY CONFIRMS 2.0 OR 2.1 ANDROID WITH TURN BY TURN VOICE NAVIGATION IS COMING IN THIS QUARTER..............HOORAH!  Wink

Verizon (NYSE: VZ) might be throwing most of its weight behind the Motorola (NYSE: MOT) Droid and its promise of delivering an anti-iPhone experience to all who embrace it, leaving the HTC Aria to basically fend for itself. The HTC Aria is essentially Verizon’s version of the HTC Hero, which made a big splash on Sprint (NYSE: S)’s network not too long ago. But, because it runs on the older Android 1.5 OS, it just doesn’t get the same attention that bigger brother Droid enjoys. But, that will all soon change. Verizon has announced that the HTC HTC Aria will be getting an Android 2.0 or Android 2.1 update sometime in the first quarter of 2010.

The new Android update will bring Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Maps Navigation’s free turn-by-turn GPS nav service to the HTC Aria next year, but it’s not yet clear if the Aria will get Android 2.0 or 2.1. We do know HTC is working on Android 2.1 for the HTC Hero, complete with the finger-happy Sense UI, so if the timing is right, the Aria may soon be playing with Android 2.1’s Google Maps Navigaion and skinned with the Sense UI.

Either way, a HTC Aria with at least Android 2.0 in tow could help push the Aria out to Android hopefuls that can’t do without Google Maps Navigation.

I have to tell you all, that I have seen and used Google Maps w/ Navi - and I was not impressed too much.

I also have a Win Mo background, so perhaps my expectations were set far too high for such a new (beta) service.  It was fully "functional" but lead me astray a few times, and disregarded One way streets a few times.  Speed was probably the most impressive feature - screen drawings were near instant, and very smooth.  Feature wise - it is all there. No complaints.

Since I am a junky for Nav, I decided to spend the cash on copilot, and have never looked back.  It is as good if not better than most windows mobile apps available.  Keep in mind however if you are used to POI's co pilot may not be for you.  It is lacking there.

I will keep my eye on Google - I am sure they will get it right, and continue to cause stock plummeting on stand alone devices. :-))

I definitely want to try out Copilot 8. There is a lot of hype about google nav and I'm sure its sweet but it relies on the internet connection. If I'm driving, or hiking, deep in to the West Virginia mountains I need something that is self contained and operates on GPS alone. I have only look at this app briefly but I'm pretty sure its a stand alone right?

Yep, as far as I know, CoPilot 8 relies solely on GPS location, and it was pretty accurate too when I was using it, the interface is nice, takes some getting used to, as would any Garmin or Tom Tom, but its a very friendly UI.. Turns your incredible into what looks and sounds like like a tiny TomTom Smiley
