Can someone tell me just exactly why the phone would or would not need to be connected to the mobile network continuously?Huh Is that simply to have internet access?HuhHuh I am new to the droid incredible and I have been very upset with it's battery life or rather lack there of. I am a realtor and need my mail pushed once a minute because I get orders over email from banks for bpo's so that is highly necessary because first responder gets the order but other than that I have nothing else running except the mobile network on all the time....... Cry

From all I've read here so far, that may be your very problem, constant push/updating of your email- hence the mobile network connectivity. The phone probably is awake 24/7 checking email for you. Only way out since it's vital for your business I see is an extended life battery, probably one of the 3k+ jobs or a pair of 1500's w/ charger off of Ebay.

With constant push email turned on you will have bad battery life regardless of the size of the battery. Obviously an extended life battery will improve battery life but I don't believe that any other setting will make a significant difference.

Push email is the ONLY thing I turn off. I have wifi, GPS, back ground data, weather updates, and everything else turned on and my battery will last at least 24 hours if I text, talk, and surf a fair amount.

Conclusion...Push email = poor battery life!  Shocked

Recommendations...Get the giant battery from Seidio or get multiple batteries and/or multiple chargers.

I have push email.. I dont get emails that often from much, other than Facebook maybe 10 a day total.. I'm lucky to get half a days worth of battery life. With nothing but mobile network turned on. No GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi and nothing running searching the net or searching for my location in the background.. I can literally lose battery life 8-10% in the morning during my shower and stuff to get ready for day, not even using the phone. I am bump charging as well.

Ok I think I have found the most reasonable solution for making the battery last on the Dinc.

I have pretty much everything turned off and i use the management widget to turn things on as/when I need them. But I have AutoSync turned off, GPS/BT and all that jazz.. the background data is turned off, as is the always-on connection. So I just poll for email whenever I want to check for it, with my gmail or my hotmail, same with facebook, just refresh and check.

I tried ^^^ that for about a week and it was still sucking down battery life like crazy if i did anything moderate to heavy on the phone. I emailed HTC half-heartedly joking but being serious if they meant to ship this with the 1500 mAh battery stock or not, they suggested I try a factory reset which has seemed to fix the power drain issue, at least for me.. for instance right now, my phone has been up for just shy of 10 hours, and i'm sitting at 80%.. haven't put it on the charger all day, have checked my emails and facebook a couple times today, flipped on GPS to use Foursquare to check-in a few times today, and even watched a few HQ Youtube videos. I am probably still going to purchase a Seidio 1750mAh in the future but for now I think I can make this work.

Here is the process in the email I got from HTC describing the factory reset process, and compared to Blackberry wiping it was relatively painless, I'm used to having to back everything up and redo it all.. but Google relates your market download history with your account and lets you re-download from the list all the things you had, including paid-for apps Smiley Contact sync, and setting back up my emails/facebook.. so simple Smiley

Thank you for taking the time to contact HTC America Technical Support via E-Mail with your inquiry about your battery draining issue. You will need to perform a factory reset, or hard reset. To perform this factory reset, please follow the steps I have provided. Please note that this procedure will delete all personal data, customizations and files from your DROID Aria, so be sure to perform a full backup prior to beginning. 1.   With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button. 2.   Wait for the screen with the 3 Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button. 3.   Press VOLUME DOWN to select CLEAR STORAGE, and then press POWER. 4.   When asked to confirm, press VOLUME UP. If this does not work you may want to go to your local service providers store and have a diagnostic ran on the device. Here they should be able to conclude where the problem is and then be able to take the next step in fixing your issue. If you require a new battery for your device, I suggest you contact the HTC America Accessory Sales Line. Their contact information is 1-888-716-3594 Monday – Friday 8:00 A.M. – 8:00 P.M. ET.

You went through a lot of trial & error, Cub...great information.  I have the Seidio 1750mAh extended battery and it is a noticeable difference in power.  Of course, most are waiting for HTC/Verizon to release its 2150mAh extended battery.  The best information I've found is this:

Just a little off subject. Has anyone used an external battery ? I have seen ones that plug straight into the micro usb on the side. Some have as much as 3400 mah. If anyone has used them can they maybe provide a product. I have mine coming tomorrow or the day after. I am trying to get a grasp on the battery life.

I've heard good things about the Zagg external charger/battery, they're more an external powersource/charger than an actual battery. So it negates you from having to have an outlet or a power port on a computer or in a car when you need to recharge your device. Best of luck, let us know how yours works out. What brand/type did you get and from what website? links?

Has anyone else tried doing the factory reset to their phone? I'm a little leery of doing it unless it is necessary or it will give me that extra battery life.  Thanks

What are you worried about? it won't hurt your device and everything will be server synced with your google account. Its the most painless reset on any mobile device ive ever used.

It was quick.  The backup with the google account was not available, which is no biggie, On day two, and seeing no increase whatsoever in battery life.  Its not getting worse, but not getting better.  Good to know how to factory reset.

Out of the box, ARIA battery life is a nightmare as all apps and functions are turn on.

But having read and followed the advice on this thread my battery life is awesome (2-3 days between full a charge)

I did the following as recommended by "LD" and "Cub" in the thread.

1. Did a factory reset.

2. Completed LD's 1-7 steps/changes.

3. Installed Y5 app

4. Installed Advance Task Killer app.

Thanks for the tips!!!
