I have made the mistake of letting my phone get to over 31,000 messages on it. Now, nothing will work. Every single app I've tried, Handcent and the default message app all freeze without deleting a single message. I'm willing to do anything to fix it. Please help!

Go to the market and download the app called Delete Old Messages. Go to settings/applications/development/ and check the stay awake box while charging then plug your phone into the charger. Run the app you just grabbed from the market and set the parameters up for how old of messages you want to delete. I would suggest you do this at night and let it run all night. From what I read you are going to need to be patient because it going to take while to clear out that many messages. Try it and post back.

Your other option is to go to settings/ SD & phone storage at the bottom is an option factory data reset. Be aware this will wipe your phone back to factory out of the box like having a new phone all data apps and custom settings will be gone. I would only do this as a last resort.

That wound up not working, either. I opted to factory reset the phone, but after 20 minutes, I have it back to exactly the way I had it beforehand. I had forgotten how fast it ran.

Thanks a lot!

I have a similar problem.  If I reset my phone to factory settings do my contacts stay saved?

just sync all your contacts to your google account before the factory reset then once you do the reset sync back to your google account and they will all be back on the phone
